For our weekend away this year we headed south to sunny Coffs Harbour and Sawtell. A group of 30, including players and partners, ventured to Coffs during the Friday with the majority that night enjoying dinner and dancing at the Park Beach Bowling Club. The next morning 23 players participated in the Stroke competition at Coffs Harbour, while the remainder enjoyed coffee and retail therapy. Best scores in the Stroke competition were Phil Chesham for the Men with 75 nett and the Ladies was Wendy Ward with 79 nett. The environmental trophy was closely contested, with Jan Lee coming out on top. Most of our players struggled in the sunny conditions although the course was in very good condition.
After enjoying the hospitality of the local golfers, the players then headed back to their accommodation at Pacific Towers for the traditional BBQ, where the draw for choosing partners for the next day’s golf at Sawtell took place. The following morning the players were very eager and arrived early for a tee-off time at 9.00am. A total of 27 players participated in our annual Best of the Worst 4BBB Event on the picturesque course provided by Sawtell.
Winners of our event were John Kelly and June Kelly (no relation) with a score of 25 points on a countback from Phil Chesham and Brian Walker. The winners of our Single Stableford event for the Lefties were Chris Rose (36 pts) and runner-up Martin Dufficy (30 pts). Right-handed winners were Phil Chesham (34 pts) and runner-up being Mark Astley (33 pts). The Ladies winner was Jan Lee (27 pts) and runner-up Wendy Ward (26 pts), the environmental trophy this day going to Sue Astley. Most of the players found the course to be a challenge but eager to return to improve on their efforts. All players enjoyed the friendly hospitality and lunch provided by the Captain of the Sawtell Golf Club.
A great weekend was had by all with plans to re-visit next year.
